Exploring Icelands highlands on horseback
Although Skálakot no longer offers multi-day riding tours directly, the tradition continues with the next generation. Youngest daughter, Birta, and her partner, Tor have taken over the multi-day riding tours, and our horses are still exploring the beautiful Icelandic highlands.
This is our shortest and most comfortable tour with easy riding days, restaurant, and showers every night. This tour fit experienced riders as well as beginners. We ride two days with the herd and one without. We have great views on two big glaciers throughout the tours as we explore Þórsmörk and its beautiful landscape. Þórsmörk, known for its beauty, is hard to access and the best way to explore it is by horse.

This tour is a four riding days trail for experienced and mediocre riders who want to have an adventure and a taste of the Icelandic highlands. We cross quite some rivers and canyons on the tour and the landscape changes by the hour. This is a very nice tour for those who want a highland adventure in just a few days of riding.

The Landmannalaugar tour is our most demanding and longest tour with seven riding days, 300 km in total. It’s for experienced riders who can ride comfortably in all gates in different terrain and is not afraid for an adventure. In this tour we ride over big black sand deserts, cross many rivers and canyons, and reach high mountains where we sometimes even need to go through snow. We also have easier days on the tour when we go to the hot spring in Landmannalsugar and relax, and if the weather is good we can swim with the horses in a highland lake.
